Wild Birds in the Spirit of Abstract Realism

In this workshop we will explore the interface between gestural mark making and anatomical structure. In my wild bird paintings I aim to communicate a sense of discovery and revelation where the bird is partially hidden in the background, at the ‘edge of visibility’ - the figure and ground are in balance and an integral part of each other.

My approach offers plenty of scope for play and skill-building - satisfying the different moods in our creative practise. We’ll balance time for spontaneity with time for careful observation, adding just enough detail to make a coherent visual statement and a unique personal expression.
