Hello Friends! Time is accelerating as we approach Fall. I’m already back to IDEA School at CAP-U teaching Character Design to 3rd year illustrators and mentoring 4th years through their Capstone Project. It’s refreshing and energizing being with students again! It’s been wonderful spending the Summer at home in Squamish this year, even though studio time has eluded me. 2025 has unfolded into a year of loss and quite serious health challenges for my family, which has naturally meant a shift in priorities and focus. Spending more time outside has helped with the stress of being so far away. I also completed a few very welcome commissions in July. Poppy the French Cocker Spaniel (see below) was my first pet portrait - it was such a joy to memorialize her at one of her favourite pastimes. RIP sweet Poppy. Studio Outdoors A dear artist friend in Whistler invited me to join her intrepid group of plein air painters and sketchers. It’s been wonderful setting out as a group - it’s given me confidence to venture out more on my own and conquer my fears, ironically, of one of the places I love most - the forest! I’ve started writing about those fears and where they come from, but most of what I’m creating this year is in fragments. I have collections of notes, lots of sketches, but nothing that makes any sense just yet. Winter will be a good time to start stitching things together. In the galleries There is so much happening in the galleries over the next 2 months. It’s very exciting to be included in a number of juried shows here in Vancouver and in the U.S. I’ve listed below the four exhibitions with their corresponding posters and hope you can find (or remember) the paintings via the online gallery shops.
