Originally from the UK, Zoë studied Fine Art and Illustration in London, England. Her arts career took her to Europe, The US and Canada. With a natural flare for colour and movement, Zoë gravitated towards a career in animated Film and TV, initially painting background scenery for classically animated films such as "Asterix in America" and "Anastasia", and latterly as Art Director for Video and TV productions.
Now a Canadian National living in Squamish, British Columbia, she balances her passion for painting with her work as an Instructor at Capilano University's Bachelor of Design and Visual Communication Program in North Vancouver.
Zoë is an active member of the Federation of Canadian artists; teaches workshops/classes and shows her work in Whistler, Squamish and Vancouver's lower mainland.
The expressive nature of watercolour continues to fascinate me and allows me to explore new ideas and themes. It's a way of problem solving for me. I particularly enjoy a fluid, slightly unpredictable way of using water soluble paint, whether it's watercolour, gouache or fluid acrylic.
My paintings are often in response to a sense of impending change or transition points - a sense that life may not be the same tomorrow.
Against a backdrop of ancient coast mountains and temperate rainforest, I find endless opportunities to document and study the changing landscape around Squamish and Sea to Sky country. I explore places that have been changed by development, abandoned or untouched by development; places that are controversial, protected, endangered or that are simply, breathtakingly beautiful
